RESULTADOS FINALES DEL PROYECTO IMA
El pasado 26 de mayo, Lirios Dueñas y Silvia Mena, fisioterapeutas en Fisioterapia Marítim, asistieron a la última reunión de consorcio del proyecto IMA (Intelligent Motion Analysis – Development of a novel technology that makes quantitative measurement of musculoskeletal problems available, in the interests of physiotherapists, patients and society “)
Tras 3 años, este proyecto europeo ha dado como resultado el prototipo de una herramienta diagnóstica fiable, objetiva y que en un futuro no muy lejano será una realidad asequible para los fisioterapeutas.
Dicho sistema proporcionará información acerca de la actividad muscular y el movimiento en aquellos pacientes afectados de alguna lesión en el hombro o la rodilla.
Desde fisioterapia Marítim, participamos en la definición de las características y prestaciones necesarias para que la herramienta IMA cubra las necesidades de los fisioterapeutas, así como en la definición de protocolos funcionales para la medición de pacientes. Además, desde la clínica y contando con la colaboración del Hospital Universitario la Fe de Valencia llevamos a cabo la recogida de datos de pacientes con alteraciones diversas. Tuvimos la oportunidad de valorar con la herramienta IMA a pacientes problemas de rodilla como artrosis, meniscopatías, hemofilia, o artrodesis, entre otros; y con problemas de hombro como cirugía por luxaciones recidivantes, tendinopatías, roturas y cirugía del manguito rotador.
Tras esta recogida de datos, se ha contrastado esta información con la obtenida por el Instituto de Biomecánica de Valencia en personas sin patología, para poder establecer parámetros diferenciadores entre la población sana y la patológica, y de esta forma poder estudiar la validez de la herramienta desarrollada.
Desde fisioterapia Maritim, valoramos positivamente esta experiencia. El dispositivo IMA supone un gran avance para la valoración en fisioterapia. Se trata de un aparato fácil de transportar y utilizar. La instrumentación del paciente y su posterior valoración, son rápidas y fáciles, ya que se han desarrollado una serie de protocolos de valoración que incluyen la realización de gestos funcionales fáciles de explicar por el fisioterapeuta y fáciles de entender y realizar por parte del paciente.
El próximo paso será encontrar fondos, bien mediante la concesión de otro proyecto por parte de la Unión Europea o bien mediante la concesión de dicha herramienta a un inversor para que se pueda continuar probando su utilidad y desarrollando nuevos protocolos hasta cubrir la mayoría de articulaciones y patologías, y de esta forma que en unos años todas las clínicas de fisioterapia puedan estar utilizando este sistema como ayuda al diagnóstico y tratamiento de sus pacientes.
La siguiente reunión tendrá lugar a finales de Julio de 2016 en Bruselas, para presentar a la Comisión Europea los resultados finales del proyecto.Este proyecto recibe su financiación del Séptimo Programa Marco de la Unión Europea gestionado por la Agencia Ejecutiva de Investigación REA http://ec.europa.eu/research/rea (7PM / 2007-2013) en virtud de acuerdo de subvención n ° 315551 FP7-SME-2012.

FINAL RESULTS OF IMA PROJECT

Last 26th of May, Lirios Dueñas and Silvia Mena, physiotherapists in Fisioterapia Marítim clinic, attended the last Consortium meeting of the IMA Project (Intelligent Motion Analysis – Development of a new technology that makes the quantitative measurement of musculoskeletal problems available in the interests of physiotherapists, patients and society «)
After three years, this European project has given as a result a prototype of a reliable and objective diagnosis tool that in the near future will be a reality affordable for physiotherapists.

This system will provide information about muscle activity and movement in those patients suffering from a shoulder or knee injury.

From Fisioterapia Marítim, we participated in defining the features and performance necessary for the IMA tool to meet the needs of physiotherapists, as well as in the definition of functional protocols for measuring patients. In addition, from the clinic and with the collaboration of the Hospital Universitario la Fe of Valencia we carried out data collection from patients with various disorders. We had the opportunity to assess with the IMA tool several patients suffering from knee problems such as arthritis, meniscopathies, hemophilia, or arthrodesis, among others; and shoulder problems as surgery for recurrent dislocations, tendinopathies , tears and rotator cuff surgery .

After this data collection, this information has been contrasted with that obtained by the Instituto de Biomecánica of Valencia from people without pathology to establish differentiating parameters between the healthy and pathological population and thus to study the validity of the tool developed.

From Fisioterapia Maritim, we positively value this experience. The IMA is a breakthrough device for assessment in physiotherapy. It is easy to transport and use. The instrumentation of the patient and subsequent valuation, are quick and easy as they have developed a series of assessment protocols include that conducting functional gestures easy to explain by the physiotherapist and easy to understand and perform by the patient .

The next step is to find funds, either by granting another project by the European Union or by granting the tool to an inverter so we can continue testing IMA usefulness and developing new protocols to cover most of joints and pathologie. Thus in a few years all physiotherapy clinics may be using this system as an aid to diagnosis and treatment of their patients.
Next meeting will take place in late July 2016 in Brussels to present the European Commission the final results of the project.
